In Happy Science, an offering is called Happiness Planting — the act of giving love while wishing for the happiness of many people to come.
You plant it thinking of a forest a hundred years from now — for people you will never meet. Happiness Planting works the same way. There is no worldly reward in return; that is precisely what makes it precious.
It is also a quiet spiritual discipline — offering what you have to the sacred, and letting go of attachment. An offering made from the heart reaches God and Buddha, and becomes a light that brings happiness to the world.
Offerings from members around the world are not exchanged for any goods or labor. They are used to spread the Truth and to build a happier world.

Two teachings sit at the centre of Happiness Planting.

Shakyamuni Buddha asked his disciples who had given the most. Not the wealthy — but a poor woman who offered a single candle with all the money she had. Her offering was the most precious of all. What matters is the state of mind of the one who gives, not the size of the gift.
From Buddhist scripture
For an offering to be true, the giver, the receiver, and the gift itself must all be pure and free of attachment. The giver offers with a pure heart, the receiver accepts with gratitude, and the gift is given seeking nothing in return.
A teaching of Happy ScienceThe meaning of Happiness Planting, in the words of Master Ryuho Okawa and the sutras.
If you make offerings without thinking about worldly benefit or profit, and feel the nobility of the act of offering itself, your mind becomes less attached to material things, and more purified.
